A Hundred Years of Abdullah Ariff 13 Sep 2004 - 13 Mar 2005
Known widely as the first significant Western influenced Malay artist, Abdullah Ariff (1904 - 1960) has contributed illustriously to the development of Malaysian art. As the first Malaysian to be made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Art (FRSA), Abdullah Ariff was a multi-faceted talent. His art encompassed lyrical views of the Penang landscape, political cartoons and sketches, illustrations in geography books and poster designs. This centenary exhibition, organised by guest curator Dr Zakaria Ali with the cooperation of Abdullah Ariff's family, presents a rare opportunity for the public to view the late artist's works sourced from the four corners of the world.
